Gearing Up for the New Season

Eventhough I pretty much play golf year round down here in Eastern North Carolina, I consider late November until about the middle of March to be the “off season”.  As I mentioned in my last blog post, my game kind of follows the geese and heads South for a couple of months.

For the past few years, I have especially looked forward to the first of March as that has been the time that I get down to Orlando for my yearly in person lesson with Chuck.  This year was no exception and we had a productive session as well as played a round afterwards. I also enjoyed seeing Scott again who winters in the Orlando area instead of staying in Canada for some reason or another.  I consider this lesson as the kickoff point to the new “golf year”.

In any event, this year I will hopefully be playing in a bunch of tournaments put on by the Carolinas Golf Association which comprises both North and South Carolina. The first of these tournaments is on the 22nd of March at Falls Village Country Club in Durham, NC.  While I played in a bunch of tournaments on the igolf  Amatuer Golf Tour  last year and may do so again this year, I decided that playing in some CGA events would be good for my game (I owe this idea mainly to my good golfing friend Mike who is going to be doing the same thing in Virginia this year).  I enjoy playing competitve golf and look forward to getting started.

I have some other goals for this year as well:

I want to get up to New Jersey and play at least one round with Mike (hayes959).

I want to get together with Ray (rayvil01) again at some point.

I want to continue to retain the “red tee” and the “hat clip thingy” in my mostly monthly “grudge” matches against Bob (Bob34) and Mike (mship) respectively.

I want to continue to put my good friends from my home course Rod and Rick in the poor house one dollar at the time.

I want to see my handicap once again be lower than it ever has before and breaking below the 4.7 index that it was for about three months this past summer and early fall.

I want to continue to introduce my wife to this wonderful game.

And more than anything else,  I want to make sure that I am always a “fun” person to play with who takes playing the game seriously while not taking himself too seriously playing it.

It looks to be a great year.
