Thank you for the compliment Check. Chuck has established a hierarchy of learning for RST. For example, it is not productive to work on a student's Takeaway if they cannot get into a proper Setup first. This hierarchy is why RST is so effective and produces results.

Al,
This is a good one. I like the diagnosis at the end where you state the core issue stems from essentially a faulty move 2 or lack of arm elevation through the use of the anterior deltoids. If this was an analysis of a student's swing, then that student would know exactly what to work on first.

I watch golf for the golf not so much an individual player. Sure it's exciting to watch Tiger pull off the inevitable clutch shot that wins him the tournament but that wont diminish my enthusiasm for the game and watching it any...

Matt,
Great observations, and you are exactly correct in assuming that once those arms work behind the body, some compensations are going to have to be made in the downswing.

Al,
The thing that also strikes me in the top of the backswing position is that not only can you clearly see Chucks right scapula, but the angle between Chucks right shoulder and left arm is much greater than Steves. This shows Steves arms are behind his body, even without seeing the DTL view. To me this shows Steve has done nothing with his right side on the backswing, and the right has just been pushed along by the left.
Steves right arm is cramped up, just squashed between his left arm and right shoulder.
Just waiting for the compensations to follow in the downswing.

Matt,
I am very proud of Kris and his dedication to learning the fundamentals. He has taken the time to pay attention to the correct origins of movement instead of worrying about the club or hitting all the "correct" positions.

Al,
Great article, and shows the good work Kris and you have put in.
The impact transformation is remarkable, with much better 'posting' on the left leg and looks like better lower body rotation. You can just sense the ball flight with better penetration.

I can't wait for the next installment.

Al,
I was able to get in about 25 live swings today. I am finding that I really need to pull efficiently from both sides...seems that starting with an effective pull going back almost sets you up to do the same on the way down (duh!). Also, when I get the 'feeling' that I am almost not going to make it back to the ball in time with my shoulders and arms, the contact ends up crisp and compressed (and noticeably more shallow from waist high position) . That's how over the top my swing has gotten. Need hundreds and hundreds more reps of this stuff with and without the ball.

Check,
You are on the right track with your practice routine. Many golfers suffer from using their upper bodies to start their downswing which results in an outside-in swing path. Mastering a correct weight shift, pulling from the left side, is a critical element in being able to attack the golf ball from the inside. Al

Al,
This issue seems to plague the majority of recreational golfers at some point in time. I know it is my tendency as far as pulls and weak fades and slices. I traced these lines on my swing recently and I can say that Move 3 is something I cannot do consistently. I see the over the top lines in about 1/4 of my swings. The 9 to 3 drill and the new weight shift drills in the RST section were my focus today with very good initial results. I also threw in a left arm only 9 to 3 to focus on pulling efficiently from the left...seems to help when I get too pushy with the right arm coming down. Great demonstration, Al.

Check,

I hope they replay that show because the movement and weight shift would be fascinating to watch! I found this simple exercise to be quite enlightening about the feeling of creating a proper weight shift.

Joe,

I would like to take this opportunity to state that my intentions are not to disparage Steve Stricker's reformation. I have received many requests to discuss his "new" swing. I am analyzing his swing based on the anatomical absolutes. I am going to dissect his swing based on the ideal way for the body to move from a medical perspective, and present the facts about how the skeletal system and muscles are designed to work. Rotary Swing doesn't supply opinions or preferences. Rotary Swing is here to present facts backed by medical science.

For a golfer, who isn't well set up, he only made 6.3 million last year.
BTW, I watched him play on the Cdn tour in Winnipeg

Al,
I caught a show on the Versus channel pretty late at night last weekend and they had a 30 minute show on Frisbee distance throwing. These guys were killing it..almost violent actually. The balance and weight transfer were really remarkable. Really a good model for centrifugal/centripetal forces.

Al,
Nice article. As a Biologist with a minor in psychology, I love to see terms such as 'neuromuscular reeducation' incorporated into teaching the golf swing. I recently joined Dr. Van Such's website, athleticquickness.com. Good stuff there, as well.
