Overswinging is a very common swing fault for golfers and there's a simple fix that is demonstrated in this video. Too often, instructors tell their students to "stop at 9 o'clock" or "feel like you're making 3/4 swings" and this is a difficult task because the golfer never feels as if the club is "set" at the top or they feel they have no power. Telling yourself to "not swing back so far" is even worse because the sub-conscious mind doesn't understand the concept of "not". The answer is to change a couple little things in your setup that will automatically shorten your swing and give you more control at the top and that's what this instructional golf video is all about.

shorten backswing

Notice how compact and controlled this backswing is. I'm not telling myself to "stop at 9 o'clock", I'm biomechanically limiting the length of the backswing which also gives me the extra advantage of increased torque for more power with a shorter swing.
